About
The Heart of Care Roots
We’re Care Roots — and here’s what we believe: the future is shaped by how children learn to treat each other.
Caring isn’t automatic.
It’s learned.
And when adults have a simple, grounded framework to lean on, kids grow into humans who know how to connect, repair, empathize, and act with real courage. That’s why Care Roots exists — to make those skills teachable, practical, and part of everyday life.
What We’re Building Together
Let’s be honest: connection feels thinner these days. Attention is scattered. And sometimes it feels like basic humanity is becoming optional.
But children still look to us — not for perfection, but for example.
We want to bring back what actually holds communities together: empathy, courage, responsibility, reverence, and real human care.
We believe caring is a skill.
A strong one.
A necessary one.
It shapes how children treat the people they sit beside, grow up with, learn from, and someday lead.
And the world does change when children learn to care for each other — not in theory, but in tiny, everyday moments. A pause. A repair. A check-in. A bit of courage. Those moments become the world they build next.
Care Roots isn’t about pressure.
It’s about possibility — and giving adults the clarity and support they deserve, so the next generation grows up with a compass most of us never got.
Care Roots is the soil.
Parents, caregivers, and teachers are the gardeners.
And together, we’re growing something different.
How This All Began
Hi, I’m Sabine. and my career started with a question from my daughter. She asked why there wasn’t a crayon that matched her grandmother’s deep brown skin — and the honest answer was… there wasn’t one.
So I made one.
Then eight.
Then a full spectrum of crayons so kids everywhere could see themselves — and each other — with accuracy, dignity, and truth.
That small idea turned into a movement of visibility and connection. Yes, it even became one of Oprah’s Favorite Things, but what mattered most was watching a child pick up a crayon and instantly recognize themselves without hesitation.
Still, visibility wasn’t the whole story.
Representation wasn’t the full answer.
I kept wanting to go deeper — into the foundations of what makes people capable of caring for each other. How we listen. How we connect. How we repair. How we treat each other. And how children learn those abilities in the first place.
Because before kindness, before compassion, before inclusion —
you have to care.
Without care, nothing else holds.
Care Roots is the next chapter of that work.
It’s the framework I wish every adult had been given — and the foundation I believe every child deserves.
This isn’t just a website.
It’s a path for parents, caregivers, educators, and anyone raising the next generation — a way to strengthen the skills that will shape the future we all share.
Thank you for being here.
With love, gratitude, and the deepest care,
Sabine
